Made in Greece: The Story Behind My Silk Scarves

The other day I was chatting with a friend about my scarves, the fashion industry, and how so many products today are made wherever production happens to be cheapest.

It made me realize that one of the most important decisions I made for my business may not be obvious when someone first sees one of my scarves.

Made in Greece

Yes, my designs are inspired by Greece. But for me, that was never enough.

When it came time to produce them, I wanted the making of the scarves to be as authentically Greek as the stories behind them.

That's why my silk scarves are made in Soufli, a small town in northern Greece that has been synonymous with silk production for generations. Here, silk weaving isn't simply an industry; it's part of the region's identity.

The scarves produced in Soufli are woven from 100% mulberry silk—the finest and most sought-after type of silk in the world. Produced by silkworms that feed exclusively on mulberry leaves, mulberry silk is prized for its exceptionally long, smooth fibers, beautiful drape, natural sheen and remarkable durability.

Why Soufli?

The factory I work with is the oldest silk factory in Greece; a fourth-generation family-owned business. Over the decades, the silk industry has faced enormous challenges. As the world shifted toward cheaper manufacturing, many factories closed, while only a handful endured by remaining committed to exceptional craftsmanship and adapting to changing times.

That really matters...

I could have chosen a less expensive manufacturing option elsewhere. It would certainly have reduced my costs. But, that was never the goal.

If my work celebrates Greek heritage, then I believe it should also support the people who continue to keep that heritage alive today. Choosing to manufacture in Greece wasn't simply a business decision; it was a way of honoring the country's extraordinary craftsmanship while helping preserve a tradition that deserves to continue for generations to come.

A Tradition Recognized Worldwide

If you've ever wondered why Soufli is so highly regarded, here's a good example. When Dior presented its Cruise 2022 collection inspired by Greece, it chose to produce its silk scarves in Soufli, recognizing the region's long-standing reputation for exceptional silk craftsmanship.

For me, that choice highlights the region's internationally respected silk-making tradition and the quality standard I was proud to build my own collection around.

More Than a Silk Scarf

Ultimately, when you choose one my silk scarves, you choose a piece that carries not only a design inspired by Greek folk art, but also the skill, knowledge and craftsmanship of a place that has spent generations perfecting the art of silk making.

To me, that's the definition of luxury!

And the story doesn't end there...

A percentage of every scarf sale is donated to three incredible charities dedicated to preserving and promoting Greek folk traditions. Read all about them here.
