Inspiration - Mesogeia Floral

Creating a new design is always a lengthy process for me. It could take from a couple of months to maybe even a year at some rare cases. My Mesogeia Floral design is an example of those rare cases that a design took me months and months to come together. Are you thinking, well how come?

Here is why…

I had been working on various details from the bridal garment from Attica which is renowned for its rich motifs. At the time I wanted to start focusing more on the sleeve motifs which I find so inspiring (see image above).
I started familiarising myself with the composition and the motifs, but all my experiments were not bringing results that excited me.

When that happens I do one of two things..

I either leave the design to the side and start working on something else, or I go through my stash of designs that have been previously set to the side to see if any of them could work with what I am currently experimenting with.

Bow shaped belt buckle made in the filigree technique from Epirus in the north west of Greece.

In this case I did the second.

As I went through my stash I came across some experimentation I had done with the shape of a beautiful belt buckle from Epirus, a region in the north west of Greece.

It wasn’t until I combined those two motifs that the Mesogeia Floral truly came to life.

What was surprising to me was how well the sleeve motifs fit into the belt buckle shape, creating a very balanced design.

I then slowly worked on different smaller elements and I created a whole collection that you can shop here.

As my creative practice is maturing I have come to embrace the fact that I need time to finalise designs before I can share them proudly with the world.
I want my designs to be enriched by all my explorations and experimentation before they find their way in people’s everyday lives and if I am honest, that’s the most rewarding part…
