Inspiration - The "Boules" masks

The Boules mask designs and pattern collection is a homage to two amazing Greek traditional masks used during the Carnival season at the infamous custom of “Boules” from Naousa in the north of Greece.

During the custom these two types of traditional masks are used - the female one, which is called Boula (μπούλα) and the male one, Genitsaros (γενίτσαρος). Both masks are worn by men and there is great honor associated with participating in this custom as the masks and traditional garments carry great significance for the local community.

For me, the Carnival season has always been a great source of inspiration. It symbolizes a passage from the darkness of winter into the light and colorful spring, celebrating life and love over death and decay.

To bring my vision to life, I created a collection of unique Boules mask designs and patterns. Check out the videos above to get a glimpse into my creative process. You'll hear music played from the Boules custom in one of the videos.. it always sends chills down my spine!

I hope my Boules mask designs will ignite a sense of curiosity and wonder of the rich symbolism behind Greek folk art. As someone with a deep appreciation for Greek folk art, I'm passionate about sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
